Nutrena Safechoice+Empower boost?

Has anyone had any luck with this combination for putting weight on a horse? If so, how much did/do you feed?

I use a combination of Front Runner's Cool Command (low starch, high fiber) with 30% Supplement, which should be apples to apples when looking at Nutrina's, however Safe Choice isn't *really* very low in starch.

Each horse gets 1 pound of 30% Supplement with anywhere from 1-3 pounds of Cool Command, depending on work load, etc. Currently, because they aren't working and are in good weight, they are only on one pound of the 30%...

The exception to that is my 26 year old Belgian and my lean TB type horse-they get 2 pounds each of 30% and 2 pounds each of Cool Command.

As far as amount - it depends on why the horse needs weight. Illness recovery? Lack of care? Age?

Start low and work up. You can feed a pound of Empower a day but work up to it. You can then back it down to 1/4 pound daily as a supplement.

Safe Choice - we've never fed more than 10 pounds a day. If they need that much, we divide the feedings into 3. When trying to put weight on a horse, several smaller feedings are better than one or two large ones. Gives the body a chance to digest properly.

Make sure they are wormed correctly, have free choice salt, water and quality hay.
