Nutrition to promote mane/tail growth and health?

My husband quararab has a very poor tail. Its thin, and doesn't grow very fast. I was wondering what nutritional supplements could help? He's currently on smartpaks' Smart Shine, and smart gut. Would adding flax seed help? Any other ideas? I know its never going to be super full or long, just because of genetics, but it was longer before we got him. A cow chewed it off......

Biotin helps. Its used in hoof supplements but also affects main and tail.

I thought about that. I take it myself for nail growth. Someone once told me, though, by itself it doesn't work. Thoughts?
