Opinions on Merlin's diet?

At the moment, I have been feeding Merlin Copra meal, Horse and Pony Pellets and Lucerne Chaff for his afternoon feed...
My question is...Do you need to feed chaff with pellets or copra? Or could I just be feeding 'one or the other' kind of thing?
I want to keep the copra in his diet because ive heard its really good for a horse's hooves and coat, not to mention weight gain :)
Just posting this to get an idea of what everyone else thinks :)

I wouldn't personally feed copra. It can be problematic & it appears the processing is unregulated & rather... suss. Seems it's bacteria or such(from memory - haven't looked into it for some time) that grows during improper drying that is the major issue. If you do feed copra, it's important to feed it very little & often & yes, definitely with roughage. If I were using it I'd want to feed it over at least 3 small feeds daily.

Don't know what's in the 'horse & pony pellets' because there are so many different types. If they are predominently lucerne/grass hay, that's generally fine. If they are grain based or otherwise high starch/sugar, I'd consider whether they're really the best option, and I would definitely be feeding over at least 3 small meals daily.

I would also consider a good quality supplement, as horses diets are generally deficient/imbalanced in a range of nutrients.
