Soaked Hay Cubes as a Base?

I have wanted to start feeding some supplements to my mare keeping it as natural as possible. Not super excited about using a grain mix so I started looking at hay cubes and pellets as the base and then would add in other supplements as needed. If anyone has an opinion on this that would be great

I do the same for my horse's seasonal allergy supplement. He's not that picky of a horse, so most things I can just put in with his ration balancer, but the seasonal allergy stuff smells (and I'm sure tastes) awful. So I hide it in a mash made out of alfalfa pellets (I've also used cubes). He's more enthusiastic about alfalfa than anything else I've ever given him (treats included) so it works really well for him.
