Lightbulb Starting a Herbal Garden

Hi I have always been amazed by herbal medication and I want to start my own this coming spring! I would like to grow herbs that will help my horse with muscles soreness, joints, injuries, and ect.. I would like to do most of it outside and it gets a little cold here! If you have any helpful hints or any type of information it would help significantly!! Thanks
