Supplements

Ok...so now I am looking to add a supplement to my speedi-beet and flax seed! Just an everyday vitamin to supply electrolytes, vitamins and minerals. Someone recommended Focus HF by Source and I have looked on-line and there are TONS! Would like to hear about some that have been used and liked by real horse owners before going shopping. THANKS EVERYONE!

I am using Smartpak right now. I like it because I can feed it alone or as a top dressing, which is good because I have both an easy keeper and hard keeper. You can compare vitamins on their website and see what would be best for your horse depending on what you're looking for.

We use SmartPak also....

Our OTTB gets grain, so he doesn't get a vitamin supplement, he gets a probiotic supplement.

Our fat lump Belgian draft gets no grain, and is on a forage only diet...mainly hay, with 6 hours grass time daily, the rest on dry lot....because of the changing quality of the hay we get (i.e. First cutting, timothy or mix, etc) she gets a smartpak vitamin/probiotic supplement for fat horses on forage only diets.

THere's tons of supplements out there, and which one to get depends on your horse's circumstances. Be careful of oversupplementing....

Ditto that.

You might ask your vet what he suggests for your horse's living environment and the work it will be doing.

Your county Ag agent should be another great source. Mine is but, I have heard others say their Ag agents are worthless

Many times the best vit/mineral supplements can be found at your local feed store ---- that does not include Tractor Supply
