Tip the hay guy?

I'm new to getting my own hay and am not sure if I'm supposed to tip the guy who delivers it? It's only about 25 square bales, I have water and cookies, is that enough?

Aren't you already being charged for delivery?

25 square bales? I get 30 at a time myself, and load and unload it alone.

I'd say he's lucky if you give him cookies and water!

If you were getting maybe 250 bales, sure. But 25? Nah!!!

Don't bother. I, too, load and unload my own AND push it from my trucks to the loft AND stack it there, too. It's a pretty sight, when it's full.

I get 400 bales, enough for a year. I unload and stack myself, with my husband's help. I pay my hay man CASH. I don't believe under the circumstances that a tip is necessary in my situation.

If I were receiving a delivery and it was a big order on a hit day, I'd offer water. Don't need some strange man croaking on the farm.

Doh. Ours helps us load ours. We go to his place to get it.
When we pay at the end of every month, he gives us some of it back.
Plus already charges us less than other customers.
Dunno why. Couldn't tip him if we tried

No tip, but we do give them some food type Xmas gifts every year since they reserve enough hay for us.

For a one time delivery, I would say no and cookies are plenty.
My hay guy delivers when I need it and charges a slightly higher fee per bale/round bale just to cover his gas. He also helps me put it up if it is square bales. Rounds just get dropped off the trailer and I put them up after he leaves.

If I choose to pick it up I get it a tad bit cheaper, but then I have to pay for gas and stack the bales myself.
He takes really good care of me and I count him and his wife as friends and do nice things back through out the year, plus they also get a huge goodie basket for the holidays.

I would not expect to be tipped when I am delivering hay to my customers but a bottle of cold water and a snack is always nice and may make it easier next year to get bales delivered if your hay guy is a bit short on hay.
