What do you feed your easy keeper? Looking for new feed

I'm looking for a new feed for my easy keeper he's a 12 yr old Quarter horse who is currently off excersie because he has a bowed tendon. He gets orchard grass hay and some alfalfa because I feed it to my rescue and its almost impossible to keep him away from it. He's on Min-a-vite lite which is a ration balancer but it gives him diarrhea. Please any suggestions??

Kent's Topline 32% Ration Balancer... it is just a vitamin/mineral supplement with added protien

If he is already getting access to alfalfa hay, imo there is no need to add protein to his diet.
Whats wrong w just having him on hay while he is off his exercise.
Keeping it simple would be best option for him.
Is there no way of separating the two horse while the rescue gets the alfalfa

There is nothing in the Min a Vit to cause loose stools... most likely the alfalfa causing that problem

I feed a mix of prairie hay and when its really cold, brohm hay. They all get a little less than one lb. Of Purina Strategy a day. They are all very close in size/weight. I give one filly a joint supplement who has had problems in that area. They of course have a salt block as well.
They all look good, nice and healthy with good coats and hooves.

My Arabian mare is in a paddock with several other horses, and all she gets is bermuda and alfalfa. She actually prefers the bermuda over the alfalfa which is great, and although each horse is fed two large flakes each (generally one alfalfa and one bermuda), I know that they do play musical food piles. So she gets a little bit more bermuda than everyone else, as she does the clean up after the others have lost interest in the bermuda. She's of a really good weight, almost bordering on slightly fat, only because I don't get out there as much as I'd like. I don't feed her any grains or supplements, though she does get a salt block.

Yeah my horses typically eat our orchard grass before the alfalfa and its usually still left in the stall or field and I really think the only one who actually likes it is the rescue so I don't think he's getting much alfalfa.

He had loose stool before we got the alfalfa hay so I think it is the min-a-vite and the vet said try something else.

i'm not totally against not feeding grain I just want to make sure he's getting everything he needs.

Grass hay (weighed), handful of hay stretcher pellets and a carrot (sliced) and smartvite easy keeper grass. He gets hay stretcher the second feeding of the day only so he thinks he is getting something when the other horses are fed.

Right now I have 3 hard keepers and 4 easy keepers. My guys that have trouble keeping weight on get Safe Choice. My easy-keeper minis (1 mare and 2 foals) get no grain, just good-quality hay, and they stay nice and fat haha. My other easy keeper is a Perch mare, she gets 1 1/2 lbs of oats and 1 1/2 lbs of Safe Choice twice daily.
