What to feed?

In October I moved to a new barn with a new horse. My old barn fed every horse the same feed, so I never had to worry about it. My new barn feeds sweet feed as a standard, but I would rather go with something else and have been feeding him stagey instead. But how do you know what feed would be best? I have an 11 year old paint gelding that gets moderate to low activity. I have been doing a lot of ground work with him and only trail ride. He is a bit on the fat side, but nothing to be worried about. Strategy seems to be all right, but is there something better I could be feeding him? I know a lot of people don't like strategy, so what does everyone else suggest to feed instead?

I am actually very pleased with Strategy. I feed the grass formula to my barrel horse. She is a 12 year old Appendix QH. She does very well on it. I also add a hoof supplement only because her feet tend to be brittle. She is holding her weight without a problem and it doesn't hype her up like sweet feed does.
Sorry I can't give you any other options. I have fed Triple Crown feed to my older horse but it was a sweet feed and had whole oats. I don't like feeding whole oats because the horses don't digest it. Triple Crown has lots of different feeds though. That me be something to look into

If you are wanting to stay with Purina in your case with a slightly overweight horse that gets light exercise I would go ENrich32 ...

What exactly is Strategy? I thought it was a sweet feed. I'm quite curious to know.

It's a pelleted maintainance type feed by Purina

It is a lower NSC feed for all types from Purina

Think Safe Choice only made by Purina :)

NSC has tested as low as 24% and as high as 36% (would have to dig for those results again)
