The Pegasus Parade is the kick off parade that starts the Derby Festival. It's a huge parade. This year over 230,000 people attended the parade and there was over 100 units!
A little bit of info about the Pegasus Parade.
Kentucky Derby Festival
This is my second year walking and snapping shots of this parade for the Red Hats and Purple Chaps.
For those of you who have no idea who or what they are, they are an equestrian club made up of Red Hat Society members. Or that's how it began. The club has grown so much, that they are well known as just the RHPC. You can be between 5 and 100! If you're under 50 you have to wear a pink hat, over 50 you move up to a red hat!
The group does trail rides, camping, LOTS of parades, their performance drill team is often invited to the Kentucky Horse park to perform as entertainment.
They've done some HUGE parades. Just like this Pegasus Parade, and the McDonald's Thanksgiving Day Parade in Chicago. I've shot the Chicago parade twice and this is my second time tagging along with the RHPC to Kentucky for the Pegasus Parade.
If you'd like to learn a little bit more about the RHPC check out their website. A lot of my photos are featured there as this is my second year as their photographer.

I have been able to see a lot of things I wouldn't have gotten the privileged to see without them!
I wanted to post a few snaps from the Pegasus of the RHPC and then I'll link to the gallery. I have a ton of "back stage" photos of all the other equine units but I've had to run right back to work and without my car I've just been too busy to get the rest of the candid photos loaded up.
Here are a few of my favorite.
