I haven't given an update on Brickens in a while so here you go...
I'm still easing into riding slowly because of my back but's it's been getting better and I've had a few almost pain-free rides. Brickens has been pretty good lately. His trot is getting so much better. He'll stretch his head down now and come on to the bit much better than before. His canter though has been a little rough. Whenever I ask him to canter he picks it up almost perfect everytime but when he sees the long side of the arena he takes off. It has nothing to do with fear or anything else, I just think he remembers his race horse days. So I've been working on cantering in a circle and slowly making the circle bigger and bigger which is working really well. I just try to keep him busy while cantering by doing simple lead changes inside the circle and doing lots of transitions. Also, jumping has been going really well for both me and Brickens. There's been a few rides where he's really rushy but for the most part he's been a perfect gentleman for putting up with me while I get the hang of jumping again.
Brickens and I are getting really attatched now. I hate it when I can't go see him everyday and Brickens tries to follow me everywhere. Sometimes after riding him I'll just take him to the indoor and let him go and he'll follow me everywhere, it's so cute! He actually chooses to be with me if I'm around rather than go see his horsey friends. Okay well enough of an update and onto the pics...
This ride wasn't the best I was having trouble getting him to relax and put his head down till the end of our ride and also his canter was a bit rushy too.
