This horse is a 6 yr old (7 next week) OTTB whom I brought "home" on 22 Jan..26 Feb marked 5-weeks. The horse was mildly underweight and lacked muscle tone. Given that I see him on nearly a daily basis I knew he had gained weight but I took a good look at him tonight and have to say I am pleased.
First pic was taken on 22 Jan when I brought him "home" and the second was taken tonight, 28 Feb.
..I thought the same thing when I saw the pic last night as I was uploading. I think it is just the angle and how his tail is shadowing the leg. He's fine.
As for the feeding regimen, he was on a quart and a half twice daily of Horseman's Edge 100 10/6 pelleted and 2 flakes of hay twice daily. I modified his feed over a period of a couple of weeks to 2 quarts each of the same pelleted and our barn's textured feed, 3 cups of rice bran pellets twice per day and 3 flakes of hay 3 times per day. He has also been on a pre- and pro-biotic since day 1.
I appreciate the kudos Now if I could just convince him to stay clean.
As the owner of a once 'skinny' horse, I can say he's looking fab... (look at my barn pics... comparisson is day I brought her home, and 4 weeks later)
Its great when you can see these changes, and they just keep getting better!
