So, when I first got Dozer (3.5 years ago!) I rode him in a treeless saddle I had gotten from my cousin. I totally loved it! It always felt like I was bareback with a little extra support just incase.
Anyways, about a year ago, the billet strap snapped DURING A GYMKHANA EVENT and that saddle could no longer be used.
I was stuck in an Aussie saddle that I hated. I didn't feel connected to the horse.
So, after months of complaining and saving up my money, I finally got a new treeless! It's the same brand as the one I had before, just new and prettier. It's also a small reminder of my pony, Bart, who passed away June 1st. The conchos on his bridle were the same as the star ones on this saddle. :)
I opened the box, snapped a quick picture, and hauled it up to the backyard to put it on Doz. I tried cleaning him off so he would look less brown and more white but that didn't really happen so...
Here are the only two pictures I've got of it and the picture of Doz running/ jumping in the event with the broken billet strap!
Sorry for the small amount of pictures... I'll get more soon! Maybe even with me riding in it if I find someone wanting to take pictures for me!
Other straps connecting to the stirrups were really worn down and it was just an accident waiting to happen. We asked the leather guy we know (who makes customs saddles/ chaps/ bridles/ etc..) if he could fix it and he said that since he had not worked with a treeless before, he wasn't comfortable telling us that he would be able to fix it and he said that figuring it all out and replacing everything would end up costing us more than just buying a new one. So we donated the worn down saddle to him so he could pull it apart and figure out how to repair a treeless (since my dad and I both have one) just incase something starts wearing on our current ones.
I rode him in it again today before work and I still really like it!
The first time I rode in it I didn't really check the fit of it or make sure it wasn't pinching him (bad me.. I know) but I did today!
The pad I use is slightly built up so I don't worry too much about it hurting his back. I was more focused on making sure it wasn't pinching his shoulders as he moved around. There was no pinching :)
I took some more pictures but I still haven't bathed Doz so they look pretty much the same as the two pictures already posted with the saddle.
