EquiFest 2011 *PIC HEAVY*

So we had our local horse expo today! It's nothing special, just small-town fun, really. I wish my camera hadn't died before the trailer race finals 'cuz there was a trailer that was SOOOOOOO indicative of my area in it! Lol

Anyway, the day started out with some fun team sorting. I've never actually watched team penning before, so it was pretty fun. One of my friend's suggested that we should try it some time (as in me on Aires and her on her quarab, Tam). That made me giggle 'cuz I could just imagine Aires being the horse at the gate and not letting anything through. He's big and he's like a brick wall when he doesn't want to move.

This lady was working it in a hackamore! They did the best out of any of the teams.

The pros showin' us how it's done:

Then came the RHA (Ranch Horse Association) cowboys (I think that's what they were members of...something like that, anyway). They did a reining pattern, did some cow work (had to keep a steer at one end of the arena) and then did some roping.
This was a gorgeous gray, but she was sooooo heavy on her forehand.

All four of them representing the four different classes (can't remember what they are now lol):

Lowest class (I remember that one...they called it the Wikieup class):

Workin' his steer:

Good job roping him!

His steer wasn't happy about being roped, so it laid down. Lol

Next class up:

Keepin' his steer contained:

Ropin' him...the rope wasn't actually all the way on the steer, but the kid and the horse kept up with it and he finally was able to flip the rope so it settled onto the steer's neck...pretty darned impressive.

The gray...third class up. I swear these kids were all given ten-gallon hats upon signing up with the association! Lol

Keepin' the steer contained:

Ropin' his steer:

The top level...this was the guy doing the commentating while the others performed. Sorry some of the pics are so blurry. I got a new camera and this was the very first time I've used it.

Showin' the young'uns how it's done!

He got the same steer as that first poor kid!

Three-day eventing demo. It was kind of lame, to be honest. They spent most of their time setting up (even though they had plenty of time to set up during the Q & A panel before them) and then the lady demonstrating dressage did like two things, but only in place. Lame!
Every horse refused the picnic table jump (so my friend said...I wasn't there because I gave a fellow boarder a lift to the barn because her boyfriend was working with his mustang [horse] and broke his arm and he had their car):

Big thoroughbred (I think he was a TB...maybe 17hh) did nothing but buck, pretty much:

Low jump caught at an awkward point, apparently lol:

Not bad:

Stick horse races!

Police dog demo...these guys were AMAZING!

Going after the "perp":

Recall (dog goes running for the "perp," then gets called to stop and return 3/4 of the way there):

"RAWR!!!" *chomp*

"MINE! MINE! MINE!"

This guy was so violent with his attack that the guy wearing the bite pad thing let the dog have it rather than keep getting bitten (the dog wouldn't let go at all):

"Man versus dog"...duhn-duhn-duhn!

Pretty sure the dog won!

Okay, for the life of me, I can't remember the black horse's name...he's a nationally-known reiner, though...I think it's something like Little Black Shiner or Smart Little Shiner or something like that...I'm sure someone on here knows who I'm talking about. Lol I know he's 15 and placed fourth at either the AQHA reining championships or the NRHA championships last year...
Bridleless:

Sliding stop kind of sucked because the arena footing was rather hard:

And then my camera died!

The steer laying down was hilarious. Took the poor kid almost five minutes to get him to stand up again!

Awesome about the Gypsy show! So jealous!

Great pics Aires!!! That's looks like a lot of fun! They don't have any thing like that where I live now, before when I lived in WV, I was at least close enough(within 2hrs) of the QH Congress in OH, not that I ever went, but still.....

Love that cow that was laying down all the time, I would have died laughing seeing that, your right though, that gray is gorgeous!!!

Great pics drafty! You should try penning sometime, it's a blast! I bet Aires could hold a cow...though if he gets too much taller they could just sneak out under his belly
