First 2011 Trail Ride! And my Russian Spy!

ROFLMFAO, I had to snap this pic, this is why I love this freaking Arab so much. Srsly, she was a Russian Spy in a past life - a BAD one. We were mounting up outside the arena to go for a ride and this is all we could see. You could almost SENSE that wary frown of "excuse me? Leaving without me? How dare you."



Anyway, it was absolutely GORGEOUS yesterday, only -14 celsius and -20 with the wind, but in the trails you barely get any of it. The girls were fantastic, although at one point there was some wild animal in thick brush and as we approached it exploded with a massive commotion (Shay-la thinks it was an owl) so both girls spun as hard as they could and jumped into the trees. So I'm nursing a very sore back today! I managed to stick with her, but she could have put a top cutting horse to shame with that move!

ROFL, poor pooch got her tootsies all cold and full of ice, so she rode the last half home with Shay-la!


Justus was NOT impressed with an additional 50 pounds!

Anyway it was fantastic, we were gone for about an hour or so, I love having the trails!

I just took my NSH on her first trail ride ever and we had a 'bush' attack her and she got the spinning, bucking, fighting for her life thing going too. LOL, I managed to stick, but got a saddlehorn shaped bruise under my ribs. Was very very glad when she got her brain back and quit.

Hehe, aren't the young'uns fun? Jynx is only 3 and Justus is only 5, so they were very good about it and stopped immediately, but it was definitely the fastest I've ever had a horse spin under me in my life! I'm very proud of them for not bolting though!

I really really like riding in the snow but I cannot stand the cold wind blowing in my face. Kudos to you for braving the cold, lol. Very pretty horses : )

Wow, that looks SOOOO cold! I went out today on Mac and it was just above freezing wiht snow inthe forecast. We came around a corner just in time to see a coyote cross the trail. Mac was really worried and wouldn't go forward for awhile and I thought for a minute that he was going to spin and go home (well, try) but though he was shaking in his boots, he did go forward.
Lonely ride, tho. Good you had company.

This is why I'm ADORING the trails this winter. Normally, we have nothing but open fields to ride in. This year, we have an arena plus completely closed in trails. So even though the wind was frigid crossing the field, it was non-existent once you got into the trail system!

tinyliny - We went on a night ride a few weeks ago and I managed to put the jitters into myself something fierce. I ride constantly at night in summer, and yet for some reason it was SO quiet in the trails, I was fully convinced we were going to get attacked by a random wild animal.
