So I put the bit under some warm water so it wasn't cold, and walked up to her and put it on. That was it. She wasn't curious about it, only gave it just a little sniff. I put the bit in front of her mouth and let it touch her lips and she opened up and took it in. =D
She chomped on it and played with it while I walked her around for a few minutes. I took a ton of pictures. =] Then I brought her back into the barn and tried to take it off. She clamped her mouth shut! Apparently, she didn't want to give it back. So I coaxed her mouth open with my finger and she spat it out ever so gently. I put it back on again just for a minute and she took it just fine the second time, and gave it back willingly. Then I threw my arms around and made such a big fuss, she thinks she was the first horse alive to take such a tremendous step.
And I just have one question. The only bits I have are 5" ones, so I'm in the market for one that will actually fit Gracie's dainty mouth. What kind should I get for her? I was thinking about a full-cheek, I hear that helps with the whole learning to steer thing. Eventually I'd want her in a french link or a bit with a copper roller, but I'm not sure if I can start with that? What do you think?
She's 18 months by the way.
Anywho, GRACIE IN A BIT AND BRIDLE!! XD
Some after-bit cuddles. =]
Back to breakfast, after the ordeal.
Gracie decided she wanted some more cuddles. =]
