Her anniversary was actually last monday, but I was busy so decided to post about it today
Can't really believe it's been 3 years with Indie already, but you can see so much difference then when she first came home. I'll never forget the excitement of loading her pain in the a** into the trailer, and the even bigger lump in my chest when I she stepped into the yard for the first time and everything became so real; my first horse. Sure, I had worked with horses a few years prior, ridden, assisted with training, and listened to countless hours of advice, but nothing beats having the first horse you know is all yours, a wide open clean slate. She was untouched, skittish, and six months away from being 3 years old, and possibly one of the smallest horses ever .
So here are some before and afters to help celebrate 3 GREAT years with my marish, attitudeish, lovable- and way too smart riding buddy.
(Note, that scar on her nose has been there since I got her... her last owner wasn't mean, but he had simply forgotten to take her halter off when she was little and her face grew into it.)
Indie the day before I brought her home, short and full of burs. She wouldn't let me get any closer back then.
The day she came home~~
a few months later when I got on her for the first time, she was about 2 1/2, we didn't actually ride until she was 3 and it was kept short. Speaking of short- Indie was between 13 and 14 hands there, made my skinny butt look huge xD
That same winter Indie and I grew close, she slept a LOT that year, and sometimes I'd go out and lay with her Not the smartest thing, but she trusted me enough to let me do it. This is one of my favorite baby pictures.
And now present day, my little baby grew up to be 15.1 hands, and around 850-900bs... more if she gets ahold of that spring grass She gives kid rides, babysits inexperienced riders, and is overall the joy of my life.
Omg she actually fits me now LOL.
She still remains rather grumpy for cameras though... but her face is too comical it ignore.
So thank you Indie for these 3 great years, you're the best **** horse I've ever met, and we've both grown so much since this adventure started.... we've been through hard times, and I'm sure there are harder ones ahead, but they're all worth it in the end. ♥
Looking forward to many more years together. Even if you ARE a grump butt 80% of the time
