Here's the new guy...

So I let him settle in the stall for a bit, then took him out for a little getting to know you session, and pictures of course!

For those who haven't read the other thread, this little guy is a 3 year old reg. Hackney gelding the owners were desperate to find someone to trade them for some hay. He's skinny, but not HORRIBLY skinny. His feet are terrible, although he doesn't limp at all (I don't see how he ISN'T limping!) He is terrified. Completely terrified, and I can't determine if it was through abuse or just lack of handling, but he seems willing to try.

I had some trailer drama trying to get the poor guy home, but finally got him home this afternoon.

So here are the first impressions:

Front hooves:

Back hooves:

And here he is after about 45 min of getting him used to being touched, a little elbow grease and brushing (poor guy flinches with every brush stroke, he was getting quieter by the end though), getting his mane and forelock brushed out. I didn't attempt the tail yet, because he's still scared when I get behind him, and he's also having a little projectile diarrhea. I just wanted to have a little bonding time with him, so some brushing and cookies, and a good bit of rubbing down with damp towels, and we have a start!

Can you say giraffe neck??

Then back in his stall to settle down for a bit, a few more cookies over the stall wall, and some hay to much!

Wow, Indy! He is sooo pretty! He looks so much better after your bonding time! Poor guy, I don't see how he's able to get around comfortably with those hooves! :(

He certainly looks cute! What is he? Do you know? How old, too? Poor guy! He looks a bit underweight! And those hooves! He looks in real need of TLC. Glad you got him :)

Yep, as I mentioned up top, he's a Hackney (longtail, I'm guessing him to be around 13.3 HH) and he's only three.

He is SUCH a pretty boy, with some more TLC he's going to be quite the looker!
Ouch, those hooves look painful though!

He's adorable! He has a lot of trepidation in those buggy eyes, poor dude!
Besides the feet, he doesn't look too bad.

Yeah, the little guy booger-eyed and puffed and blew at me the whole time. He's scared out of his mind, but he'd stand there, trembling, and reach his nose out to me anytime I took a step back from him, so I'm taking that as a sign he has a hopeful spirit.

Awww poor guy, he is just so so cute, he will be quite the looker when you are through with him. I'm so glad you finally have him now and hopefull with lots of gentle loving care he will learn that being with people is not such a bad thing after all

Oh, BTW, his name is now officially "Monty."

My son had wanted to name him Mickey, but when my friend Tracie suggested Monty, Spencer liked that better (and I do too, to be honest).

He is cuter than I thought! And I thought he was pretty cute! He will come around. I just love his little face! Bless you for taking him in.
