He's a 2009 Appaloosa stud colt at the farm where I've been boarding Cinder since May, had Eve there for a bit last spring as well. I've had my eye on him since he was a weanling but fell in love last week - the woman that owned him couldn't catch him and she asked me to "just get a halter on him!" 2 hours later, after learning to use a lariat, 2 bruises on my left hip and a boot full of mud, Cherokee had a halter on and a place in my heart. He was TERRIFIED at first but learned fast that if he stopped bolting and dragging me, the pressure was gone. Anyway, by the end of those 2 hours, I'd caught and haltered him, and run my hands all over him. Came back after 10 minutes and bug wiped him everywhere - he's scared, but willing to learn and wanting the attention!

Sorry for the ramble, just excited! I don't have his breeding papers right in front of me, but it's my understanding he's of good bloodlines - going to do my research over the summer and find out if it's worth keeping him a stallion. I've only ever owned one other stallion, a black Welsh Pony - he was great, but I want to know my stallion is adding good things to the gene pool! If anyone on here is educated in Appy bloodlines, I'd love for you to IM me so I can run some names past you! Cherokee is my first registered horse and I want to learn a bit more about it!

    K, pictures!

His feet are my #1 priority...

    Handsome boy <3

    Such a beautiful, alert expression!

I'll be sure to post more pictures as we get through some of our training! Only worked with him twice so far, just bought him yesterday! Going out in the morning though so wish me luck!

Thanks! He's quite solid for a yearling...his neck is starting to fill out though! I'll get a couple cleaned up pictures of him over the next week or so as I introduce brushes to him!

Thanks everyone! Sorry for the delay in the update, I don't have a PC so I hop online when I can...using a cell phone now so going to keep it short-ish for now!

Cherokee's doing fantastic with desensatizing, his feet are trimmed (his right hind inside heel collapsed from not being trimmed, but my farrier said it's correctable within a couple regular trims), he accepts all brushes, can pick his feet fairly easy, change his halter, had his first bath (rinse off with water from the poll down), AND his first trailer experience!

That's a lot of firsts for 10 days! I made a post in horse health regarding one of his legs, not going to write it all again, but would greatly appreciate any input if you check it out.

Pictures to come tomorrow when I borrow a PC :) So much more to type about the in betweens of all those firsts, but not using a cell phone!

OK so picture time!!! I'll start with his feet...they were a mess! Nearly 15 months old and never had his feet done...until last week! These are before pics...

    Front right

    Front left

Hind right - note the collapsed heel

    Hind left

    And drumroll please...

I don't have any pictures from the bath because I needed all the hands available to help rub him down but he stood like a doll after he realised we weren't eating him and we were actually keeping the bugs off! He has such a sweet temperment - no reason to trust me other than me asking him to. I'm sure that'll change a little bit in his terrible twos, but I'm enjoying it for now!

I have some pictures from after his trailer ride home - my mom's miniature gelding LOVES him! Cherokee didn't really care...he was kept beside some ponies where I bought him so it's not new, but he's happy to have a friend!

    Oh Hai!

    DUDE...what happened to your tail?!

They took your tail but left THOSE?

    More to come...
