Java Baby

Some photos that I took after our bareback ride. I'm going bareback a lot lately to build up my leg muscles.

Plus, he collects much easier while bareback. So we can work on that 100 pounds of muscle that needs to be put on him. He's a skinny-mini at the moment when it comes to muscle. We really need to work on his hind-end muscle. I have to remember that he hasn't been worked or ridden in two years until these past two weeks, so we have a lot of conditioning to do. But he used to be SO beefy when I was riding every day. We'll get there.

I made him stand in the middle of the arena while there were other horses riding around. What a good boy.

Thanks.

Yeah, reining_girl - I LOVE this barn, more than I've ever loved a barn! Haha!

He's an amazing colour. You're very lucky.

It is not enough for a man to know how to ride; he must know how to fall.

Fire Eyes - thanks. I picked him out of a back field when he was a yearling with rain rot and a fuzzy winter coat.

He came from a show barn and they thought he wouldn't turn out to be anything, he wasn't one of their "chosen foals". So $1200 later I took him home. When he was a two year old going to shows people didn't think he was the same horse. Even the people we bought him from, they commented that they shouldn't have sold him.

Their loss! He was shown AQHA and IBHA and has points and ROMs for each. But he's 'retired' from showing (mainly because I can't afford it any longer) so we just mess around. He's 11 now.

Wow. He's turned out real good. If you don't mind me asking, what are his boots for? They don't look like the boots people use round here. :P

The boots are Professional'sChoice SMB boots. They prevent over-flexing, shin splints and other leg injuries. Mostly reiners use them but a lot of U.S. Western riders do, too. Check Horse Tack, Horse & Equine Supplies - Statelinetack.com and search for SMB they'll have more info.
