June 27 Show
Our first show =) We trailered over at 8 in the morning (it was held at the barn I take lessons at) and about 20 people were there.
Right off the bat was dressage, which I was a little apprehensive about because Tang's usually a brat. She blew out one circle and lost stride, but we still got a first place ribbon...I think so nobody felt left out more than anything.
I wasn't planning on anything other than dressage and games, but my instructor said I should go in the Flat Division, so I did, because Tango was being totally chill and awesome. In the Pleasure Hack I placed 5th (lol, the one class a trail horse is supposed to excel in), in Show Hack 4th, and Equitation 4th. Each class was out of 5. Even though we didn't do all that well, I still thought Tango was awesome; mostly because it was a nice change not having to battle her for control.
After that came jumping, and only a few people stayed around for the games. The games were SOOO much fun =D I never realized it was so fun. First was an obstacle course. Me and Tango took it slow and steady, and came off with a clean round. Everyone else tried to bluster through it and they all got penalties for hitting stuff. The only reason I got second (out of 6) in that class was due to the fact the BO led her 4YO on a pony, and naturally made sure she had a clean round. Well, as far as solo riders go, I was first =) Second was pole bending, and Tango was really into that (we placed 3rd out of 6, not bad). Third was Bareback Command, the game I was most unsure of. The judge placed red ribbons under our legs, with the promise "The last person to have their ribbon gets to keep it." All 4 of us were able to make both normal and extended trots, so the judge said: "Unless you feel like you're going to fall off, canter." Oh boy. I'd never cantered bareback (I'd barely ever trotted bareback) but I was so competitive and caught in the moment that I did, and it was AWESOME. Two of the girls lost their ribbons cantering, and the last one over a small jump, so I won that class! Last of all was racing down, getting off your horse, bob for an apple, and race back. Tango and I had the fastest time going down, but as soon as I had the apple I came up blinded by water and sand, so it took a good 10 seconds for me to mount. We placed second of 6, and had SO much fun.
To top the day off, we got Best in Division for the Gaming division. =D
*I have videos of the bareback class too, I just don't know how to load them..*
*And I am aware that my shoulders are always really hunched forwards. I do it almost all the time, even when I'm not riding, just unconsciously. It's an annoying posture that I'm trying to correct*
