I recently went for a road trip to Alberta to meet a friend of a friend that owned a gelding I had in 2008 - kinda confusing I know, but her name's Cher and she's a wonderful friend of mine now! I stayed at her place for 4 days and put some work on her 7 year old Paint mare, appropriately named Baby. She bought her as a long yearling and although she's put alot of visit hours and groundwork into her, not alot of saddle time yet. I did JoinUp with her a couple times and 3 rides, got a couple awesome pictures too! I plan to go out there again next summer to visit and play with ponies, until then, these will have to do!
Meeting Baby - 7 years old
Bandit, the appy gelding I sold, which now Cher owns...should be 10 years old now.
Cher's 3rd horse, Lady - childsafe Saint of a QH...late teens I think?
Joining Up with me
She wasn't impressed...
Joining Up with Cher
Even less impressed when MOM demanded manners and respect!
Changing stirrup length
LOVE this mare!
By the last day I had Cher riding her around the arena, but on a more WILLING mare instead of a horse just being told what to do...
Oh it is a small world...just didn't realize HOW small! I can't wait to visit again and see how far Cher comes with her now that she's got some tools on her belt...she just hit a road block with her so fresh eyes were all that was needed! Baby is built like a tank but hasn't quite learned how to throw her weight around yet, which is a good thing, so working on getting her light both in hand and under saddle to curb her pushiness!
Apparently Cher worked with her on Wednesday or something and instead of taking an hour and a half, Baby Joined Up after about 45 minutes! She's still reluctant to hand over the leadership role, but I think Baby will come around nicely!
