Meet Levee!

I did it! I bought a horse and he arrived at my barn this afternoon. Levee is a yearling Quarter Horse gelding who stands approximately 14hh tall (I'll get the official measure and weight on him tomorrow). He is a very lovely red dun, complete with the prominent dorsal stripe and stripes on his front legs.

Excuse the horrible photo - let's blame that on a combination of things, mainly my iPhone and the fact that Levee was just finishing up a very loud, very needy call to the horses across the yard. He's currently hanging out in isolation for a little while, and he's not exactly happy about it.

Getting him to the barn was... fun. He managed to break a lead line and have to be bribed and tricked into going into the trailer. Getting him out was easy... we just backed right up to the pen, opened the back and he went tearing out. Guess that's what happens when a baby has no idea what a horse trailer is.

Luckily, he calmed down pretty fast when he saw the hay and grass waiting for him. I spent a bit of time with him, just the two of us, and by the time I left, he was following me around with his muzzle on my shoulder and backing up with verbal commands. He lowers his head on command as well, and lifts his feet very politely. He seems very intelligent.

I'm so excited about him. Today, he's getting the grooming of his life and I'm going to braid the flaxen parts of his mane down in an attempt to flatten them. They stand straight up. haha.

He doesn't know it yet, but he's also getting wormed. Heh.
