Meet my girl - Bobbie!!

OK guys, here are some piccies of the first horse I have bought here in the States. She is a 7yo TB mare 'Bit of Energy' 16hh, I like to call her Bobbie for short.

Her story is that she raced until she was almost 5 years old, couldn't win a race to save herself. She was turned out into a huge pasture when she finished racing and left there for two years, doing nothing except running wild with some other mares and geldings. When I picked her up she was skin and bone, wormy, scruffy and otherwise pretty unhealthy. I have had her for two months now and she is doing better. She is still pretty lean although gradually building up muscle with more work and an excellent diet, another month or two and she will be in exactly the condition I want her to be in.

As for riding, once she remembered what a saddle and bridle are and we straightened out a few behavioural kinks, she has settled into work quite nicely and has proven herself to be a lovely riding horse. Sorry the only picture of me riding her is so blurry, it was taken as the sun was going down! Also, I am aware my stirrups are a little short - I plan on keeping them that way until I am completely sure she will continue behaving herself the way she is supposed to if you all catch my drift

I was going to say she looked a little on the light end of things, but reading your post makes sense as per her condition. Good job with her. She looks lovely under saddle. She seems to have a decent work ethic eh. Keep us posted on her recovery back to full health and how her work under saddle works out.

Thankyou for the compliments My2geldings, much appreciated! She has been de wormed, de tapewormed, vet checked and had her teeth done. She looked like hell when I picked her up but has picked up rapidly since I brought her home.

Funny thing is that when I went to look at a horse, she wasn't the one I was there to see, I was looking at two others for sale but I didn't think much of either of them. She happened to catch my eye as she was moving around the pasture (somewhat madly I must admit) so I asked if I could look at her instead. The trainers response was 'what would you want with that b*tch?' So glad I got her out of there!

Also to anyone wondering, the catch on my breeches came off and they sit kinda baggy on me, made me giggle when I just looked at the photo again as it looks like there is some kind of weird growth around my pelvis!

Oooh she's cute Sarah!!! I like her, can't wait to see how she matures with some work and muscle into her, could be a bargain by the looks of her

Thanks Kayty, I promise to add more pictures of her under saddle that show her off a bit better, that one doesn't really do her justice!

She's lovely Sarah, and has a sweet, kind eye.

Her pasterns are a bit upright, but she has a very nice shoulder and loin, and once you get more weight on her she's going to be even more stunning.

Congrats on such a pretty girl. I'm sure you and she will be very happy together.

Don't worry about that not wanting to race thing. JJ apparently never thought racing was a competition; to him it was merely a nice stroll with his buddies, who seemed to be in a hurry to get somewhere. He always figured he'd catch up with them eventually.

Thankyou so much for the kind words guys!

SpeedRacer - you have a keen eye, her pasterns are a little steep for my liking too! She is a little flat footed also, perhaps as a result of the angle of her pasterns.

First dressage show in three weeks, we're doing Intro A and B so just working on the basics at the moment, it should be interesting to see how she performs away from home, will give an update after that!

Can not add anything you do not already know. She has a very sweet expression. She makes plain bay look lovely.

I agree with SR (and you) on her pasterns and her nice shoulder. Which she uses very nicely in your under saddle photo.

It looks like you two are going to have fun together as you get her back into shape and start progressing along. I can not wait to see future photos with her all shiny and floating along.

BTW - I thought your stirrups looked lovely (as I always ride too short ).
