Here are photos of two of my horses:
The grey is my 10 year old Andalusian mare, Apolonia. She is an extremely sweet and wise mare. She is more of a teacher to me than I am to her!
The dark bay is my 20 year old QH gelding, Smokey. He is also an amazing teacher for life lessons. His blindness has not slowed him down at all and he shows tremendous strength and courage in all situations.
Thank you all for the very nice comments. My horses are very dear to me, as I'm sure all of yours are to you as well!
Smokey went blind 12 years ago due to cataracts. One eye was very slow to develop the cataract and the other was very fast, but by the time he was 8, he was completely blind. I've had numerous people tell me that he needs to be put down simply because he cannot see. What a tragedy that would be...this horse has so much to offer and lives a far better life than the average horse.
im4dressage: Apolonia is solid at 1st level. We were training 2nd and 3rd level and doing very well, but had a major set-back when I allowed another person to ride her. It's okay now and we are working our way back up. She is such a lovely horse to ride and be around.
Thank you all for your very nice compliments.
Yes, we do have some great riding opportunities around here. The Pacific Northwest is a wonderful place to live and own horses
