So I've really been wanting to have a thread with pictures/descriptions of the horses out at the barn, and I decided to put that idea into action today! This may take a week or two since theres so many, but I'm hoping to do atleast a few per day!
Sour is probably the closest to mine of all of the horses out at the barn. She will be turning three on April 26th, and has transformed from the most monsterous, spooky, terrified fillies on the ranch to an animal of grace, willingness, and love. It took me over a year to teach her that people could be her friend, but finally after much hard work, plenty of injuries, and a few tons of carrots and lovin', she's finally the filly that everyone wants to see twice. Due to some careless figures, she is unfortunately pregnate and is due in mid may, but we are hoping for the best and praying for a healthy foal. I plan to show her in the near future, an still hold out the hope of buying her eventually. She's my baby <3
Sparky is a five year old stallion with a sweet temperment and a lot of gusto. He loves to please people and will do just about anything. As a foal, sparky was extremely sick and was in a hospital for the first 2 1/2 months of his life. He was born out at the farm and his mother is a mare named Catwalk. He cannot be gelded due to quite a few health problems, but he's a total gentleman anyways. Sparky is known for being the 'guardian' of all new colts who are introduced to the gelding herd, and always makes sure that everyone gets enough food before he eats.
Nutmeg is a one year old mini with an attitude! We first hoped to use her for our therapy program, but now we wonder if we'll ever even teach her to stand tied! XD she loves to challenge everyone and everything, and also loves to pull cellphones out of your back pocket when you aren't looking. Her mother is Catwalk, and she thankfully born the perfect picture of health. We love her dispite her orneriness (we often wonder if the donkey is her father, and not Sun) and her markings are to die for! (she has an ELEPHANT on her shoulder!)
You couldn't ask for a better little gelding that Big Cowboy, our shetland pony. Every week he takes his therapy kids faithfully on their rides without complaint (although he does make quite a few funny faces!) his favorite food is frenchfries and he enjoys drinking big red out of a cup and chewing on ice. Cowboy is almost always the first horse the kids ride and he never fails to teach them how amazing horses are with his gentle nature and fluffy white mane. Cowboy is trained not also to ride on a leadline, but also with a bridle. He is also a well trained, very nicely mannered harness pony and he makes us proud every week!
Bella is a thirteen year old pony mare whose breed we'll never really know. She came from a man who decided to begin his own breed of pony, and crossed quite a few small horse and pony breeds together to make what he called 'Fredricks' after himself. Whatever those breeds were, they make an EXCELLENT pony. Besides bad teeth, Bella has wonderful conformation, is extremely versitle, and never complains. She's a total sweetheart and is ridden both by therapy kids and lesson kids, and has competing in the rodeo at barrels three times (she didn't like that one bit though, and promptly galloped back into the chute as soon as she crossed the start line!) we love Bella and at 12.3 hh, she's the perfect horse for our not-so-small therapy kids who still don't feel ready for a large horse!
