So today I said goodbye to Mikey. :[
A lot of you may not know me from UHB so I'll tell you who Mikey is. He is a 16.2hh, 15 y/o, chestnut OTTB gelding that I leased this year. I started leasing him a little while after my first horse Bo passed away (long and sad story). Mikey is such a little freak, ha ha. But I love him sooooo much. <3 Mikey was boarded at the barn where I kept Bo and was recommended to me by a friend at the barn. His "Mommy", Alex, is at college in Gainesville with her other horse Gaston, and they were looking for someone to lease Mikey to keep him working, happy, and active since he had to stay at home in Odessa. I went to try him out and really liked him. Even though I couldn't really jump with him (old track injury) I wanted to lease him since he was just so much fun. He hadn't been seriously ridden in a year so it took a while for him get back into work but once he did he was AMAZING. Dressage is really his forte so I started working on a little bit of it myself just for fun. We didn't have a dressage trainer but we'd do simple movements and make up our own little tests and stuff. :]
The only problem with Mikey was he had very bad feet, as a lot of OTTB's do and got really sore whenever the ground was too wet. Well unfortunately while the barn we were at was very nice, and had awesome facilities and people, it was prone to get flooded fields and rings. So Mikey was sore every week or so and had to have off for a few days or a week until it dried up but living in Florida the dry never lasted that long. It got tot he point where I hadn't ridden in a month and was still leasing him. I really do love that horse so I was willing to suck it up. After that month though his owner decided it wasn't fair for me to be paying and not riding so I just stopped leasing him but kept caring for him and visiting him and stuff.
For Mikey's feet to really get better he's being moved tomorrow to go live with his "Mommy" and "brother" Gaston up in Gainesville where it will be drier and he can get back to work and do some dressage. I'm sure he'll be happy up there with them but I'm really going to miss him terribly. I know it's for the best though and that I'll get to see him when summer comes around again and they come back down for a couple months so I'll survive. :]
Sorry for the novel, now lets get to some pictures!
Introducing, Worth the Wait- aka Mikey!

My favorite of the video pictures.
Trotting in the jump field.
Looking so handsome.
Don't you love the little white spot on his rump? XD
