I haven't posted pics of my guy in a long time and thought I would do a pictorial history of him from birth to date. I bred and raised him with the intention of using him for Dressage, English and if he shows promise/interest doing some low level jumping. I had him started last March 2011 as a 3yr. old and we put 4 months of training on him. Everyone loved him out at the trainers. He did some little cross poles, nothing huge and not until his last month under saddle and he seemed to really enjoy it. When the trainer would be circling around the larger jumps to bring him back to go over the little cross pole jumps, he would have this look on his face as they were coming toward one of the bigger jumps - anticipation/eagerness. But as they would go by them, to come to the little jump, he would have this look of, "really, this is a piece of cake" and not put any enthusiasm into going over the little jumps. He's going to be 4yrs. old on April 1st and yes he is quite the jokester, hince his barn name "Pistol." I have been riding him and working with him since I picked him up last year, but with me showing my Quarterhorse mare this year and doing some traveling to do it, I just won't have time to ride him. So, Pistol is going to go out to a beautiful 200 acre pasture with grass, trees, creeks and other horses for the next 7 months. I'll pick him up the first of November and have another 60 days put on him. I'll probably have to do several postings of pics. So here we go - here's the boy! Oh I guess I should say what he is: Pistol is Morgan and Thoroughbred. His sire was OM Jacob Ash and his dam is Soy La Una. They are both on allbreedpedigree.com.
Okay here's some more pics. I guess I should have stated above about his age. Those pics were of him from about 10hrs. old to 1 month. These are from him as a yearling to 3yrs. old.
Thanks for the compliments. I love that boy!! And he really likes being around people. If I'm outside doing yard work or bumping around, he'll winny at me to come and visit with him. He would also rather visit than eat. My neighbor just can't get over how he loves to visit.
When I took the new pictures yesterday, I also measured him. He's pretty butt high. I measured his croup at 15.3 +, almost 16H and his shoulder at 15.1. gosh I hope he plans on growing more on the front end or I'll have to ride him backwards. LOL
I'm hoping the owners of the pasture don't call me and ask me to come pick him up, because he's out there terrorizing the other horses.
Wow, roberto, he has grown up so beautifully. Glad to hear that his training is going well even if you don't have the time you wish you did to mess with him.
Thanks msrobs and Mickey73. I'll post more pics, maybe on the day that I take him out to put him in pasture. It'll look like a smear of black on a grassy background, because I know he is going to take off running.
And of course I'll post some pictures when I pick him up at the end of October and before he goes back into training.
It takes along time to raise these babies. My first breeding of his dam did not take, so we had to wait a year, then she took. Then you have 10 months and they finally arrive. Then it's 3+ years before you can ride them. Then it's another 3 or so years while they mature. That's why he's my last baby that I will breed and raise myself. If he stays in good health and we have no freak accidents, he should make it into his 30's and I'll be,,, well old.
Gorgeous horse! I love his markings, and his color is just stunning! Hes looking great!
