My Gift Horse

A few weeks ago I was blessed to finally be able to welcome this beautiful 10 year old Lipizzan mare into our family. I have wanted her for nearly 3 years now and she fell into my lap. Her bloodlines are amazing with several of the stallions having been ridden at The Spanish Riding School. She is so sweet and kind. The black marks on her back are because she had been kept in a herd where she was the lowest in the pecking order.
Lipizzans start out bay and lighten as they age. Bresciana not only is a gray but she carries the bay gene, which, if bred to a bay stallion would allow her to produce a bay foal, which are rare.

Isn't she a lovely mare! Congrats on your new horse.

Sometimes I wrestle with my demons. Sometimes we just snuggle.

There is actually a bay Lipizzaner in training at the Spanish riding school. He won't be bred, but they consider him to be lucky.

Yes, the belief is that so long as there is a bay stallion at the School there will be peace in Austria.
