My new guy.

Here are some pictures of my fairly new guy. He is a 3-yr-old Paint x Percheron (sire = paint, dam = percheron) and is veeeeeery big, about 17hh right now and still growing. He was greenbroke when I got him and had only had 60 days professional training. My trainer and I are taking things slow with him and just doing walk/trot (he has done a bit of canter, but we're avoiding this until he's a bit older and more confident in himself), working on rhythm, balance, forwardness, transitions, softening to the bit, extension, etc. He is a very good boy, quiet, and learns fast! He has a lovely, floaty, ground-covering trot. He's playful, extroverted, curious, mouthy, and a total goofball. I've only had him for a few months, but I love him to bits. We have some ground issues to work on - he still doesn't understand respecting people's space and he can be a bit pushy because of his size - so I'm planning on starting to do some natural horsemanship ground work with him. I hope to eventually do some foxhunting, dressage, and maybe eventing with him in the future. He loves to go out on hacks and he'll do anything for a treat. He'll put anything and everything in his mouth too...he's going through a real curious baby stage right now, where he investigates everything by licking or chewing it. Silly boy...

He seems like a lovely boy!

My horse can be quite pushy too, i'm doing Natural Horsemanship on the ground with him and it's really helped with lots of things. Especially his spookiness!
