    My paint Apollo

Hi, my name is Michelle and I just recently got my first horse, Apollo. I've been riding for 12 years and have always dreamed of owning my own horse, and this past weekend it has finally come true. I randomly stumbled upon an 11 year old registered paint gelding who has been started under saddle, that was in need of a good home. A week later I went to go out and look at him, and even rode him for a while and he was a dream. He was willing to do whatever I asked of him and trotted a couple laps around the arena and did some bending exercises around barrels. The owner was in awe at how well we worked together and the two of us just clicked...I called up my barn and told them I have found my horse! Two weeks later, and with a clean bill of health from my vet, I brought him back with me. He had only trailered once in his life so I was expecting him to refuse to load, but he saw the hay in there and he hopped right in and started munching away. He was quiet the entire 4 hour drive and unloaded beautifully.

He was living with 3 other horses at his other home, and was the low man on the totem pole so he is pretty underweight...more so than when I visited him 2 weeks ago when the weather was nicer. I'm not worried though, he'll gain weight fast now that he doesn't have to fight for his food and he is getting spoiled rotten.

I've been doing groundwork with him the past couple of days and have been working with him on lunging, and he has caught on fast! I'm so proud of him, he's better than what I imagined. Here are some pictures of my handsome guy!

They are in chronological order from the trailer ride home to this morning.

You can really see how underweight he is in this one...this will eventually be a before picture once he fattens up :)

He had never been in cross ties before and after a couple days he has learned to stand still. He used to dance around and try to walk out of them, but after rewarding him with a couple carrots for standing still he realized it pays off to be quiet in the cross ties...I can even walk to my tack room a few steps away without him trying to follow me anymore!

He has a lovely smile too...lol

    Thank you!

I can't wait to see how he looks this summer either! He's going to look like a different horse once he's at a healthy weight and looses his thick winter coat. He is SO fuzzy right now.

He is super adoreable. Better watch yourself or you'll fall victim to the cuteness factor. You know, where your horse is so darned cute you can't discipline it correctly and you end up spoiling it, and enjoying every minute of it.
He is the kind that could get you to spoil him. He's utterly huggable and cute as they come.
