He's lovely. How old is he?
That kind of horse, the kind that will do anything but knows how to take care of kids , is called a "Packer". They are a rare commodity and worth their weight in , well, not Gold, but say, silver?

His coloring is lovely. Kind of a mahogany red.

He is 18 years old and a registered paint.

The people who gave him to us used him for roping and barrel racing and he has won 4 saddles in his life. They retired him and got new horses and he was just going to sit out in a pasture. So, they gave him to us so that he could teach my girls how to ride. We will be going out to their house all the time, so they will see him and be able to keep up with him. It was hard for them to let him go because they got him when he was 6 months old and trained him.

I just find it amazing how he puts his head down to my daughters level so that she can pet him. And, he really seems to like all the loving !

Yes, they are very pleased with him. This evening, we were in a hurry to hurricane proof the outside of our house and barn. Since I was already at the barn, I just went ahead and fed all the horses (the kids were working hard tying everything down). After we finished, my youngest daughter ran outside to go feed her horse. She was SOOOO mad that I had fed for her lol. She has reminded me several times this evening that it is HER job to feed HER horse . I'm proud of her.

Thanks waresbear! I don't like to post pictures of my kids on a public forum, but they aren't real close up pictures, and so I just couldn't resist!
