Talking New horse owner, a percheron? Oh yeah:D

So I've had minis for awhile now because we never had the property for big horses or the money to pay for boarding.. so now we finally moved and I went from 7 hands to 16 <3
My mini's :)
Splash is a 16 year old paint gelding
Missy is a 4 year old palamino mare
And Flicka is a 9 month old black filly :) and yes she is smiling in the picture.. haha.

And this is Stomp.. My 23 year old 16 hand Percheron <3
She has had a really rough life so I am very glad that now she is in good hands <3

What do you guys think? Any advice? (:
Thanks,
Brittany

Congrats on your new mare :) I have a perch. Cross gelding and just love him. His size never ceases to amaze me or anyone else! There is a draft section in the Breeds section. What do you plan to do with her?

Congrats on your new big girl! She is a beauty. I love draft horses. :)
The mini's are way cute too.

You look so happy in your photo with her. What do you plan to do with her?
My horses are trail horses. I don't need to show or anything to be happy with them... so whatever you choose to do, just be happy with her.

On a side note, I think your stirrups are too long. Your toes shouldnt be pointing down.

Right now she is a trail horse, an amazing one at that. I have to duck A LOT and taste quite a few cobwebs. She has some get up and go so I may just for fun do some speed events but as far as anything else she is getting up there in her years, so she will be retiring within the next 5 years. She enjoys riding very much and we have already bonded so much im very glad I found her. She has had a very rough life ended up at auctions dropped a lot of weight last summer and she never gained it back so we need to put weight on her and she has been used as a trail horse at a stable for 15 years.
Thank you! I thought they were but the lady I bought her from said they were fine.. I had a hard time staying in the saddle so i'll make sure I make them even shorter! Haha (:

You guys look great but your feet are in a bad position.

One other thing I noticed, and it may be picture, but your bit looks like you have it backwards.

I agree that the bit does look like it may be backwords, unless its a kind iv never seen, and I don't consider myself an expert by any means so it very well could be lol. Make sure you keep your heels down! :) it took me a looonnng time to master that one. Just pat attencion to it and after a while it will be 2nd nature

But she is very beautiful and looks like she'll be a perfect companion I hope you'll continue to share pictures and photos of her (and your cute minis) in the future. I think you'll have alot of fun with them. I love percherons

I love the name Stomp! Adorable. Congrats and don't think you have to retire her based on a number. Let her tell you when its time to slow down and until then have a ton of fun with her.

The bit caught my attention too. I thought it was an odd choice but if that is what you both are used to. I really like the thread in the Horse Tack and Equipment forum called Bit Information (Snaffle and English-Type Bits) (Sorry I don't know how to put a link in here to direct you right to it.) After doing research on the forum and other websites, I switched bits with my horses and they certainly seem happier now that we have bits more suited for our needs instead of what we just had laying around in the tack room. On another note, I have a belgium cross and love him. I have yet to meet a draft horse that doesn't have a good attitude (I'm sure out there somewhere just haven't met one.) I'm sure you'll enjoy her. I wonder what the minis think of their new giant friend?
