New rescue

Here the new rescue and resident to the horse shelter where I'm volunteering. The horse is a romanian sport horse, 28 years old. When I've heard about it I was expecting to see a horse in a better condition. He was a lesson horse all his life. I'm amazed to see a horse in such a bad shape. I know that he's old but he's to skinny.
It hard to imagine that a career as a jumper and lesson horse can result in pasterns like those.

He is very calm, kind and responsive so it's very easy to work with him. Besides being to thin he has some pulmonary problems and his teeth needs floating.

We rescued the horse only to give him a home because they wanted to send him to slaughter. We're waiting to receive another one in the same condition.

He sure will be a looker once you get a few pounds on him!

Pastern wise, I think he was probably lacking in conformation his whole life. Added with the high impact sport has only made it a tad worse. They are very slope-ish but, baring any other set backs, I can't see why he couldn't be hacked.

Good luck with him!

He is a sweetie indeed, he doesn't have a mean bone in his body. I really hope that he will have some wonderful years just resting here, eating and receiving attention and love.
My only concern is that it will be hard to put weight on him because of his age. But we will try.

As far as weight goes, there are many different ways to help put weight on an older horse, though you should introduce anything new to his diet slowly. He looks like an absolute sweetie. Can't wait to see what he looks like with a few pounds on him, and some love and attention.

Poor baby. I can't help but think that at some point in his life, he was probably some girl's show horse and was loved very much. I bet he's quite relieved to be in good hands now!

I've spent most of my life riding horses. The rest I've just wasted.
