Not too bad for the first time driving.

Just wanted to share some pix of John and Bessie's first time being hitched and driven together. They match up better than I thought they would. If you notice in most of the pictures, they are on the same stride.

And of course, Rafe was busy trying to get up in the middle of everything.

A couple of big broad butts.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

I really like this pic, they are all 3 on the exact same stride.

And John is just sexy whether under saddle or in harness :)

It didn't take Rafe long to learn his place

Crossing the highway on the way back home

Then back home learning to stand quiet while hitched.

And just for grins and giggles, here are a couple of really short vids that I took with my digital camera.

And for those of you who see the blood in Bessie's mouth in the first vid, it is not from the bit. She threw a fit the first time she and John met and hit her face on the truck trying to charge him. She split her lip a little just inside on her front teeth and it turned the froth pink. No serious injuries and no pain from the bit.

Yeah, Me and Dobe went along in case Rafe started to get in the way or got tired. I was prepared to pony him back to the barn if needed but he did well.

And Thanks, I was really hoping to convince Dad to buy some flashier harness for them at the sale this weekend but to no avail. It will just have to wait until he outgrows this harness. He hasn't really started to bulk up yet like he will when he is about 6 or 7 ;).

My favorite part is Rafe wandering along like he knows what's going on. =] I suppose it's a really good learning experience for him.

John and Bessie do seem to make a great pair too, I think that's awesome. =]

Haha, yeah. He is the ****s. He kept trying to get Dad to play with him and kept stepping on the driving lines that are dragging behind. Little turd. But he finally learned the best place to be is right there at Bessie's side. Normally we tie foals to their momma while driving but since this was their first time and didn't know what would really happen, we thought it best to leave him loose (in case they decided to bolt) but they didn't. That little video of the trot is the fastest they seemed willing to go.

And it was a very good experience for Rafe. He got his first exposure to trash bags in the ditch and vehicles going by. Took everything in like a champ but he was sure tired when we got back to the house.

Great pictures and videos!
John and Bessie really make a great team together!

Rafe joining is just too cute. He's going to grow up to be one big horse.
