We headed down the Hollow first, but decided to not ride the trails in there, because it was really hot and we wanted to ride in a more shaded area... so we turned around and headed back to find some more shaded trails. We had a slight mishap with Shashona’s stirrup breaking, but I rigged it back up.
Dakota decided he was done being good after a while and tried to kick Shashona’s horse. I told Shashona and Anthony to go on, and that I would catch up... We were taking a break at the house before we went on, so while they headed down the road, I went up to the barn, and grabbed my riding crop that I bought ages ago but have never used. I had to use it twice on him for trying to kick Baby, and when he wanted to take off, and I wouldn’t let him (I was making him walk about a quarter of a mile behind Gypsie and Baby), he got upset and reared up a little and got smacked with the crop again. After that, he decided to behave and was an angel for the rest of the ride.
So, we headed to my cousins, as they have trails behind their house, and we rode down the creek before going on to Mrs. Phyllis’s and crossing over onto her land (we’re allowed to ride on her land... she has acres of trails). We rode all through the trails there before deciding to head for home when it hit four-o-clock.
We rode for roughly five hours, in all... My horses have definitely earned a break for a week or two...
