The two horses that are pasture boarded at our house in VT are off the track standardbreds. The mare's name now is Bean, however it used to be Matt's Flyin Solo (Sired by the great Matt's Scooter). She was rescued off the track by a man who basically left them in a pasture. When the lady who currently owns the two of them went to buy Zeak, they added in Bean for free since everyone thought Bean was ugly and useless. Her nickname was actually Mule :( Zeak is also off the track, and his name might have been Southview Dakota, however we are not very sure about that. He was never raced.

They both now reside as basically pasture puffs, and are ridden a few times a month. Zeak is 9 yrs old and Bean is 8. They are inseparable! Bean is around 16 hh while Zeak is around 17 hh, so they are big horses. They both walk, trot, canter, and Zeak also paces from time to time. Bean is also known to be moody to the owner, but is quite the opposite with me. She lets me do whatever I want with her. Overall, I love both of them and I find the breed very interesting. Here are some pics, you can also find them in my barn :)

It's sad what some people can do, isn't it? My girl was sent to slaughter when she was three after she was claimed because she wasn't fast enough.

Poor girlie! A lot of people don't like standardbreds, my lesson barn's BO included. When I mentioned me riding the two of them, she said, "Ugh. They're so high strung. That's why we don't have them here." I found that completely the opposite. Bean is totally trusting of me, except for when it comes to haltering. She absolutely loves being curryed too. Zeak, not so much :/

I don't find them very high strung. Nelly can be, but she's still young. But I mean, every horse is when they want to be, right? I can't stand people like that, I try to distance myself from closed minded people who can't see the light. Every horse is good for something!
