Story of Gold Master and I

I've been around and rode a lot TB's in different disciplines, but I've never meet one quit like this guy!

Gold Master, aka Smokey, is a 3 year old Rose Grey gelding.
I first meet him a year ago when I first started out at the racing training center.
The first thing that caught my eye was his coloring, second thing was his inquisitive personality and just how intelligent he was.
He was the first race horse that I ever exercised and pretty much trained on my own, he helped me learn everything about I know about racing today. Yes I worked with the other racers but for some reason, I learned more from him than I did any of the others.
We've got a bond as if he was my own horse and he has my whole heart.
He can be a little spunky, down to work racer but I can also throw on a Western saddle and take him for a nice trail ride.
I always told my boss that if he ever wanted to get rid of him that I had first dibs and he did come to me first when he decided to let him go. Unfortunately I barley have time with my own mare with school but I did find a nice trainer that took him in.
He's been in barrel racing training for the past month or so and the trainer said he's coming along really well, no surprise to me.
Soon I hope to go out and see how my boy's doing and hopefully get a ride in!
Enough chit chat, here's my handsome fella!

Here's his beautiful papa, Mizzen Mast

He's lovely mother, Fly Gold Air

Just to show you guys, we always start our racers in a Western saddle first

That's us in the back

Such a sweet face :)

The next pictures are a year later when we took him and a couple other horses to Delta Downs in Louisiana. You can see how much he's greyed out already

Getting ready for his morning work out

Video of him and his horsey girlfriend, Callie, at morning workouts

On our way home, see their are suppose to be metal bars but he decided to be a Rottweiler and he completely destroyed them. And it wasn't even our trailer

He defiantly wasn't meant to be a race horse but he is the perfect horse, all around.
The first race we put him in, he didn't get overly excited or spooky. I remember waiting in the holding barn and he just took everything in and was the perfect gentlemen. Even when the horses came running by, he just watched them and learned. Then when we got to the paddock he did just the same. As some maidens were jumpy and anxious, he was just clam and relaxed. He even stood cocked on one leg, which is rare in the racing paddock to say the least

Anyways I love my TB boyfriend and I thought I should share my love with all of you guys ^^

I love your pics! I am also beyond jealous!! My plans growing up since I could remember, and my dream was to be a race horse groom. I know that a lot of people don't like it for various reasons, but there was something about it that I was in love with, and from the moment I thought about being a groom it stuck! I knew it was a hard job, long hours, little pay, but gosh did I want to do it.

Right after highschool, I even emailed all my favorite barns down in KY......Lane's End, Three Chimneys, Vinery, ect, ect, I got quite a few responses, and it made me feel so good that I was qualified!! Sadly, and happily, lol, I ended up getting married, which led to me getting Rodeo, and ect, ect.

But gosh, seeing your photos makes me so excited, there is just something about a racing TB, or any racing horse for that matter, that is so amazing to me!! Thank you so much for sharing these photos!! I really do love seeing them, and it makes me feel as if I am there, and doing what I always dreamt of doing!!

Thank you! I'm really blessed to have the connections I have.
From the age of 3-7 I was always at the track with my grandfather but it wasn't until two years ago, after I graduated high school, that I actually got really into racing, that's when I also started working at the training center.

First time I stepped onto a race horse I knew it was what I wanted to do but after I had a really bad fall my grandfather said no more exercise riding, so I started doing more on the ground and I found I actually liked that better than the riding. But I think my favorite thing to do of all was ponying the horses early in the morning.

It all really felt official when I got my grooms license, I was going to my assistant trainers license but I felt I wasn't ready for that just yet.
I felt like a 16 year old getting my drivers license for the first time
