Taz's saddle training LOL

Well, today I decided to start on Taz's saddle training. He's a 3 year old Percheron x Paint.

It was all very uneventful. In spite of being a lot more energetic than Rafe ever was, I think he's going to have the same basic temperament....just take stuff as it comes and not stress too much.

Yep, I know the saddle is too far forward. He's really heavy on the forehand in addition to still being pretty downhill and that makes it creep forward when he's moving.

Warming him up right after saddling him to get him loosened up and stretched out

Stopping for a minute before switching direction

Now, the other way

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

Stopping on this side now

Now, softening up on the bridle

And, stopping to rest during ground driving

He looks pretty good under saddle

Calling it quits after I nearly had a heat stroke

And, after his bath, I noticed that he's looking a lot like a warmblood

And he was really happy when I finally turned him loose

Love to see him being started! I wish my guys were already old enough to start all the ground work. Its interesting how his cross is with a paint, but you would never be able to tell. Genetics works in so many interesting ways sometimes eh. Hope to continue seeing his progress in pics. Love them!

I love looking at pictures of those big guys! Then I go out, clean the horse poop out of my corral, and thank the Lord for 800 lb horses...

I'm jealous that he has a normal-sized head!

Taz is looking good! Can't wait to see him progress.
