We went out today, as always, to see our girl and I was watching the two of them and I have to say, as a mom, it just amazes me.
This superiorly shy child and this formerly abused and skittish mare...they have such an awesome bond. This is a child whose fears rule her so strongly that she cannot even get on an escalator, but she does not fear this horse because of their bond.
In some situations, things happen for a reason, and this was one of those. I guess on the wings of all of the craziness in our lives, something simple like the love of a child for a horse really gets me.
When we got her, and everyone kept screaming at me about "green on green" and how I was an idiot to let my child (who has been riding under a trainers instruction for two years btw) ride a four year old horse our trainer said "Heather, love can do SO many things...and that child loves that horse and that horse loves that child". Never has Flicka thrown her, or even tried.
Just a mothers musings I suppose. Here's the picture that made me think of it...
Excuse her grubbiness, she has to wallow in the mud daily or she's not happy..
On the other hand, I saw my favorite BOY today too..who is not "mine" but is my steady mate under saddle. He's a goob..but I'll share him too (seems only fitting as his mommy shares him with me) George here is a percheron x thoroughbred, bred out of Angola prison, and just a dollface. I do believe he thought I wanted his watermelon, the rotten thing.
