So, a few weeks ago Chance went lame & her leg was a little swollen but not overly warm. I was hosing it off and kept her in a resricted paddock for a few days but the lameness seemed to get worse. I called the vet out, he said it could be one of three things. An abscess coming out the coronet band, an infected joint which would need surgery or....a fractured pedal bone. I panicked, being only 18 & paying for this horse all myself I obviously can't afford any kind of surgery... the vet said to treat it as an abscess poulticing it for the next week or so and see what happens, if nothing then she would need x-rays. After two days of poulticing the front of the hoof over the coronet band.... puss! Was extremely gross and smelled bad but I was soooo relieved. Over night she had gone from being extremely lame, to hardly lame at all. Within a week and a half of poulticing and soaking her foot I now have a sound pony! Poor thing was on box rest for two weeks and driving herself mad.
Heres some pictures of her in the restricted paddock at first and soaking her foot and her pretty vet wrap bandage and some pictures of her winding the herd up when she finally got to go out again :) it took two people to lead her out to the field, we both got dragged & had to quickly pull the headcoller off before she took off lol she's the one with the dark blue rug right in the middle of the herd.
