I've been meaning to go out and visit this little guy for a long time and FINALLY got out this weekend. This is Tsjip (pronounced "Chip"), at about 3 months old now. He is Friesian, but unregisterable, as he is intersex. For the sake of simplicity, you can think of him as a hermaphrodite. We just call him "he" because he looks like and acts very much like a colt :) He's more of a driving type than a riding type: very upright build, lots of height and hock action in his movement. Luckily, his new owner does both driving and saddleseat, so I think she will enjoy him.
Its rare, but not so rare that it doesn't show up in books about breeding. Just one of those things, pure chance.
Luckily, the attending vet was able to find him a home with one of her techs and is going to keep an eye on him as he grows up. He's going to need some major surgery when he hits puberty.
He has a penis and the plumbing works, but its pushed much further back between his legs than is normal. Where his testicles are is anyone's guess. Short of cutting him open, can't tell at this point. I'm sure the vets will have a field day.
