Two lil rescues!

We got these lil yearlings from a lady down the road, she said she couldn't take care of em. The male is a year old is he old enough to geld? I don't want him mounting my appaloosa should I keep them separated or will they be ok for now?

Aw, what little cuties! My, that bay is bright! He is definitely old enough to geld, I'd do it asap, before the flies get bad this summer. It's very possible he could mount and breed a mare as a yearling, it's possible he won't but why take the chance? Do they have names yet?

At a year it's usually plenty old enough to geld. It all depends on whether or not his testicles dropped, but at that age they usually have. As for mounting? To be safe you could, but it depends on the horse. Is he showing any signs that he's interested in the mare/filly? Is he already mounting or acting studly?

I would get a vet out and geld him asap, and separate them if you have the facility to do so.

I wouldn't worry about separating them, but would however still get a vet out as soon as you can to geld him.
