Update on Demi (the mare I got in June)

Hey guys!

So I thought it was time for a Demi aka Nancy Drew update! For those of you who don't know, I got this horse in June from her home state of KY. She's a 7 yr old unraced TB mare that's 15hh.

We had a fantastic lesson last Wednesday with my trainer! Demi had been getting a little rushy over fences so my trainer helped me bring her back to how she was before, as well as working on her cross-cantering to the right problem. Both got tremendously better and I'm excited to see what this year brings for us!

The downside to the whole situation is that I won't be able to compete until late July, or possibly until I move to KY for college in late August There was a XC schooling last weekend that I did not attend because Demi hadn't had a lesson since December and we didn't feel that it would be appropriate. Next XC schooling is next weekend, I will be at Rolex watching the advanced riders go. As much excitement as that brings, I can't help but think what I'll be missing at home. However, my trainer Jamie is going to be schooling Demi while I'm gone so that's an up side. All the other schoolings, I'm working and won't be able to attend. As honest as my horse is, I don't know that it would be wise to spend the $ on something that I don't know is going to end up well.

Anyway, here are some photos (from video) of our lesson and a bonus one at the end of our mini horse trial last August (we did BN!)

Enjoy!

Thanks Kim!

Oh YES! Demi is quite the little spitfire. She is very, very sensitive to aids and if you use them incorrectly... wow. Not good. haha. Let's just say she'll tell you really quick if you've done something dissatisfactory! I think she's the perfect horse for me at the moment. As you know, I just came off of a less-than-perfect match with Uma and I really needed something I could have fun on that would still teach me tons. I think I found her

Did you notice her spiky mane?! Totally suits her personality. It never lays on one side lol.

Very cute horse. Reminds me of my old Thoroughbred mare. Wish I hadn't had to sell her. She was an awesome horse, and she too would tell me when I didn't do something exactly right, which helped me a lot with my riding.

I think that is wonderful that you have found your match! That is great, and when you find your match, there will be nothing to stop you!

I think her mane suits her perfectly! I can't wait to see the both of you when you are able to compeate! And so what if you can't compeate right now, your time will come - right now, just work on that bond and coming together so that when you do compeate, you'll both knock the socs off of people!

Kim- Thanks for the words of encouragement. It's just hard for a competitive person like me to sit back and watch everyone else (the people with the $$) go out and show every few weeks while I sit here, doing what I think isn't much. I feel like Demi is READY and if I don't do it now... well... she'll go to waste.

Gillian: Thanks I love you and Zeus too!

Ok so I knew you guys couldn't wait for another update! haha

We had another lesson today with Jamie. It was fantastic! She was nice and rhythmic, not rushing at all, and no head flipping! She had front shoes put on and her teeth done and we found out that she didn't have a bit seat at all O.o. No wonder she wasn't comfortable! GEEZE!

So now, she's having NO problems and we even jumped 3'3"! She is spending the weekend with the trainer just so she can experiment with her and push her a bit more than I'm comfortable doing while riding.

Excited about our future!!
