We went for a snow ride!

Well after the blizzard-like conditions last weekend, we have some permanent snow on the ground.

I hadn't even been out to my horses since before the blizzard (my boarders take great care of them though, no worries!) so it was great to get out there this morning on my morning off! The breeze was a little chilly, but otherwise a pretty gorgeous winter morning!

Walking through snow is a good workout for Red because he tends to be naughty when he's not ridden every day. And with it dark outside at 5 PM, he doesn't get ridden on weekdays. The knee-deep snow in the ditch makes it awful tiring to be naughty!

We went about 2 1/2 miles, mostly walking ... err, trudging!

Tacked up in the barn and ready to head out!

Snow ......

More snow!

Hanging out with his cooler sheet after our ride. Thankfully, he didn't act up too much and didn't get too sweaty!!

Today I discovered that I LOVE wool socks and I LOVE the horse riding snowpants I bought off of Horze.com I kept nice and warm!

And just snapped a couple of my little yearling (okay, not so little ... he's gonna be BIG) Shotgun. I messed with him on some groundwork while I let Red finish cooling off before I turned him loose.

It is not enough to know how to ride; one must know how to fall.

What the heck! You're only like an hour north of me and you have that much snow still? We had a small sprinkling that melted very quickly.

I'm checking out these snow riding pants though. I'm very interested.

Yea we got a good 10+ inches in the Bismarck/Mandan area.

It's supposed to be really nice this weekend, and next week, so we'll probably lose a bit of it!

Yes, the snow pants are awesome! They have the shoe strap to put under your boot so the snow pants don't ride up. They also are suede-lined on your inner thighs to help grip the saddle. And suspenders to keep them up!

When I bought mine though, I had a 50% coupon. So I only paid half price. I'd give you the coupon code but it is expired now. I checked.

I hate you. I want a 50% coupon! I'd buy a pair if I did.

And oops. I was thinking you were in GF. I knew about all the snow in Bis because I had to cover a shift for a coworker stuck there.

I was trying to remember where you were!

But now that you said one hour south of GF, got it.

Yea, you guys didn't get as much over on the East part of the state as did the West.

Nope. We got the freezing mist and some powder over that, but it didn't last long.

looks SOOOO cold there. If we have snow , it probably wont' be til January. And, it's so heavy it balls up in the horses' feet and is very slick to ride in (or drive in , for that matter, and add in the many hills here, and it can get crazy)
