Carriage Horses In the Philippines

I'm very passionate about helping horses, and we've currently spearheaded the first local free horse clinic here in the Philippines through PAWS, CARA & AKF (our local animal welfare organizations). I know that a lot of abuse cases are found all over the world, but a small group of us are trying to shed light on the situation of our local horses. We're a third world country so animals are put on the lowest interest - but we try to do our best. Happy to say we finally were able to spearhead this effort in hopes of someday soon putting up a place that can house some of the abused horses.

This is not a call for any donations, but if you could repost the articles would be helpful in eventually gaining some press about the situation here. "Kalesa" horses are carriage horses used in the city and "cocheros" are their drivers... and to give you an idea these horses are going through everything portrayed in the movie "Black Beauty" and more... however it's a tricky situation given the poverty level here, and as I wrote we can only do so much in educating the local population.

Horse fighting is another evil we're against - but along with the aims of someday diminishing cruelty to animals - we hope to educate those willing to listen.

Here's my blog entry about it and a link to the article a local paper wrote about it is at the bottom:

Hope you'll have a read! is the official PAWS website.
