Great topic, my horse is only 3 so we aren't galloping quite yet. Honestly, the only time I ever galloped was not on purpose ... I was cantering uphill (more like an incline) and when the mare saw the straight away, well, she was like "yee ha". 21 year old, golden oldie, thank god and not a green broke youngin nonetheless it sure felt like I was flying. My trainer was with me, she kept up and helped me slow down. There was a lot of air between my butt and the saddle, as embarrassing as that is to say!

I like the running walk lol, my speed of choice. Have fun gallopers!

I think I have a good trail to do it on, but I don't have a beach or river to ride on :( . We live aout four hours from the beach and we live only about a mile from a river but it is surrounded by woods and doesn't have much a a bank. We do have a big hill in out pasture, well it takes up most of our pasture, and my horse loves cantering up it for some reason. My horse has pretty good balance so he can go fast in a circle. I also have and area where we are going to put a riding ring in that I think is good. Thanks for all of your help!

Oh my gosh. Galloping bareback is theeeee best thing in the world. (: I personally think galloping is smoother than loping.. Especially if you use those leg muscles and get up off him. I learned how by just going out in a huge field and letting my horse run. (: I think the only tricky part is the slow down (;

I didnt use a neckstrap, bareback pad, nothing. I just grabbed a handful of mane and went with it. Sounds hard, I know, but when you actually do it, you'll never want to stop!
