Critique my riding?

So I was wondering if I might be able to get some constructive criticism for my riding. I haven't been in lessons or had any coaching/critique for a few years now and I'd like to to start my ponies in some lessons this winter. It would just be nice to see if I can't knick a few bad habbits I've picked up over the years before I go into lessons.

Bit of a history, I took a year off from riding completely when I had to move away to go to school. The year after that I met Shnook and bought/broke him in in the summer (Got him as a rescue). We didn't get to really ride that winter as I haven't had the space to really ride him (The outdoor ring was pretty icey and there r was no indoor ring) and I boarded him pretty far away that winter so getting out to see him was a pain in the gas bill/butt. I moved him in with me at the end of the winter to our new home where I can just keep him with me. I was able to ride him a bit more (Up the road and through the town) and wasn't able to do much till summer when the ground hardened. Then I had surgery this summer which put us out for most of the summer and just as I started to heal he got a leg injury (We're both totally fine now!). So now that it's fall this is about where we're at.

I didn't have any tack on just a halter and for reins some baler twine (We didn't have a lot of time as per tacking up as my camera man had to leave shortly.). I'm usually pretty good with heals down, though I find when I bareback it has a tendency to go out the window a little more. >.> I know I need to hold him out to his corner after we finish the jump aaaand yup. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :D

All I have for jumps at the moment is some fake rocks, tires and lots of pylons.. So many pylons. Lol. :P And also the one chair jump.. I usually balance a broom pole on it and hang a brightly colored blanket or towel off of it with a square mini log underneath to make it look more like a filler. But they love to take the poles and chairs and fling them around.. So sorry about the mess in the middle, I hadn't gotten around to putting it back together at the time. x___X

I'm no expert by any means, and the film is really hard to see due to the angles, light and speed. But from what I can tell you have a REALLY nice seat, and your pony is just adorable.

Btw- redneck jumps ftw. *highfive*

Yah the video was taken off of my phone so the quality really sucks. >.> And why thank you~ :D I spend most my time without a saddle on some skitzy horses, so you learn to plant your butt after a bit. xD He's quite the pony. :P He can be quite the twirp from time to time. He reminds me of the pink and purple unicorn from Charlie the unicorn.

Heck yeah! :D *Fives* My next plan is to take the bottom of the old rabbit cage and paint it blue, dig a patch out in the field and put it in, fill it with water and then we have a homemade water trap!

I don't do much jumping myself (my horse isn't trained for that.. YET), and the video is hard to see to me mostly because it's kinda dark and goes really fast. I couldn't tell if your pony was moving that fast or the video was in fast forward! Haha. But I would like to comment on the fact that you do have a nice seat and it's very notable that you rode with just a halter and some bailing twine for reins. That says something about your training and riding, if I may say so myself!

You really seem to have it together! You and your horse make a great team, but you just have little tweaks to fix (as we all do :)). I know its hard when you are bareback, but try to arch your back a bit. You are a tad hunched over. Good job with your elbows, make sure you keep a bend in them to keep contact. Before and after the jumps, also, make sure you keep him straight using your leg. Keep your leg right under you, and don't grip with you knee (you do this very well; just a reminder). Also, instead of rocking back on your tailbone, try to move forward a little onto your seatbone. You and your horse make a great pair! :D

Sarah: That's just how fast my pony goes normally, his favorite speed is a step past a gallop. And thank you very much~ :D <3 I actually have him going now without the halter (Just goes off your legs.) I have a rainbow collar for him just in case I need to stop him if something happens, but he's gotten to a point you don't have to touch it anymore~ I'm so proud of him, it's a work in progress but we've made it to jumping like that. :D I really want to get a video of that. xD <3

Liam: Thank you~ :D I noticed the hunching part a bit when riding, I've been working to fix it, just need to keep reminding myself. :3 I shall work on all the advice though, thank you! It always helps to get another persons perspective. :3

That is awesome! I would love to see a video of that. :) I'm hoping one day my horse will be able to do that, but he's green broke, so that's pretty far into the future.

I could harldy critisize anyone who would ride bareback over jumps, as I would not, being too old and too much of a chicken. So, from my perspective you look good. Wait until you have a good place to video and are tacked up and then try for another critque. Good luck on having a healthy year this time!

Sarah: I'm sure you'll get there. :3 Just takes a lot of time and work but it pays off. :) I shall see if I can't get a video taken either today or tomorrow~ :D

Tiny: Thank you! I'm hoping for the best this year and so far looks really good! :D I'll see if I can't get a video up in the next day or so with some tack as well. It looks like it's either going to rain or snow today, so I shall see how it goes! :D
