hows tias conformation?
shes a 2 year old, 13.3hh new forest pony mare.
Excuse the poor condition her feet are in, she hadnt been handled much until these past few months & she was bought completely wild from the new forest as a yearling & hasnt had the farrier yet. she will be getting a trim soon.
She's darling! I agree with Kaylee, a little front-heavy, but not too bad! She's just adorable. OT, I know, but do you have any other pics of the braid you've done her mane in? It's so pretty!
She has great shoulder and hip angles as far as I can tell. At her age she will most likely grow a little more to make her more even and less down hill.
She is very cute! What kinds of shows are you going to be doing with her?
Nothing special, i was just thinking of taking her in a couple of in hand classes this summer. she'll be ridden in english when shes broken in at the end of this year, so far shes only just had the saddle put on her, and ive leaned over her back but thats it.
yeah i cant wait to see her in her summer coat lol
i actually spent about 4 hours attacking her with the shedding blade the other day, i actually have blisters and bruises on my hands from it **** apparently her coat gets really bright in the summer too, i'll try and find some older pictures of her in the summer
Oh she will most likely come right out of the forehand. My friends horse looks like that right now and she is the same age. That's how they tend to grow. She looks like she will be a nice little girl in the show ring!
Quite nice looking horse/pony. Her neck is a bit short, but I think this is normal for Forest Ponies.
So, tell us about this breed of horse; where they come from, normal size, temperament ,uses. Do they live as wild horses? I know nothing about them, as we dont' hve them here.
theyre named after a forest in south england, where all the stallions & mares run wild with no contact apart from being rounded up once a year & put into the sales. people that live in the new forest usually find random horses wondering around in their gardens lol they're known to be good kids ponies, but theyre strong & big enough to carry adults easily. most of the NFP's ive met have been pretty calm and kind, ive only met 3 mares, and tias been the only nice one out of all of them.. lol im pretty sure thats just the horse in general though, not the breed. apparently theyre good for jumping, dressage & driving and they range from 12hh to 14.2hh. theyre usually black, brown, grey, bay, chestnut or roan. ive only ever seen one dun new forest pony & i think theres been one Cremello it was all over the news because nobody had ever seen one that colour lol but theyre really pretty & great fun to ride :P my friend that owns Tia has 2 others, both nfp's and theyre all lovely. her first one is Kai hes about 10 i think, 14.1hh black gelding. bought unbroken from the forest a few years ago & he was a breeze to break in, but now hes a bit of a cheeky monkey & likes to buck lol all good fun though :P & her other is William, a bay gelding 3 years old, just broken in and hes been amazing. never put a foot wrong & she rides him around bareback with just a headcoller on with no problems lol i think Tia will be the difficult one to break in. but she might surprise me :P
heres some pictures i got from google of the new forest ponies
ive been there loads of times on camping holidays & day trips, its worth the visit :P
and a link to the forest run stallions, my friends pony kai is on there
if you go to N-R then click on Obershade Wondering Star - thats him
