First day with the new horse with pictures :)

This was our first official day together and remember he's only 3, going on 4. I learned how to do lungeing and he did very well with me, even with me learning. Also this was his first day experiencing the feel of a saddle blanket and saddle. He did exceptionally well. He couldn't figure out how to get it off of him so he just ran for a minute and then stopped and that was it. He didn't buck, kick, rear, nothing just ran and then did it a second time and that was it. We walked around and he grazed some and that was it for today. Overall seems to be a good boy and I'm very happy :)

He's very cute!

I would suggest though, since he's only just starting with the whole saddle thing, to wrap the stirrup irons with the leathers then putting the tail through so the irons won't slip down and bang him on the sides.

I agree, when i 1st started my horse getting used to the saddle i always made sure the stirrups were up. He could spoook and seriously hurt someone by accident. Although when i did let him feel the stirrups he totally accepted them anyways. You said he ran for a bit and seen as the stirrups were down they would have been hitting him the whole time and he didnt buck or rear so thats really good. And he is stunnning. :O)

Yeah the stirrups were only like that for a bit and then I wrapped the stirrup leathers around them so they didn't slip down after that.

Congrats on getting him home!! He is beautiful.

Always remember that feeling of looking at a big, open country over the ears of a good horse, seeing a new trail unwind ahead of you, and that ever-spectacular view from the top of the ridge!!! Follow my training blog: http://robertsontraining.blogspot.com/

Thanks everyone! So far so good. He let me put the saddle and girth on today, that being only the second experience, and I led him around, he was pretty relaxed about it.
